About the Role – Data Science Analyst at Shell
As a Data Science Analyst, you will work within Shell’s Finance Business Unit, partnering with data scientists, engineers, and process experts to create meaningful insights from complex business process data. Using Python, SQL, visualization tools, and process-mining platforms, you will support Shell’s journey towards operational excellence and digital innovation.
This role is ideal for candidates with 0–2 years of experience and a strong passion for analytics, machine learning foundations, and hands-on data manipulation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Preparation & Transformation
You will prepare, clean, and transform process event data to support modeling and analytical tasks. This involves working with timestamps, activities, case IDs, and enterprise workflow data.
2. Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)
Assist in identifying patterns, trends, anomalies, and bottlenecks in large datasets using statistical techniques and visualization tools.
3. Data Visualization & Reporting
Create dashboards and reports using:
- Power BI
- Tableau
- Plotly Dash
- Python visualization libraries
These visualizations help businesses make data-driven decisions.
4. Collaboration in Feature Engineering
Support senior data scientists in designing, testing, and refining features for process analytics, predictive modeling, and operational insights.
5. Building and Maintaining Pipelines
Contribute to data pipelines that integrate data from:
- SAP
- Salesforce
- ServiceNow
- Other enterprise systems
Ensure data consistency, quality, and adherence to ETL standards.
6. Process Mining Support
Assist in creating event logs and running analyses using tools such as:
- Celonis EMS
- SAP Signavio
- PM4Py (open-source)
This helps Shell develop Digital Process Twins for process optimization.
7. Documentation & QA
Participate in documentation, testing, and validation of models, pipelines, and dashboards.
8. Learning Responsible AI
Develop foundational knowledge in ethical AI practices, Explainable AI (XAI), and governance frameworks used at Shell.
What You Bring
Shell is looking for candidates with:
- 0–2 years of experience in data science, analytics, or visualization
- Hands-on knowledge of Python, SQL, pandas, NumPy
- Understanding of ML basics, predictive modeling, and statistics
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Plotly Dash, Matplotlib, or Seaborn
- Familiarity with process logs, process mining, or event-based data
- Exposure to ETL concepts, data pipelines, and feature engineering
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or similar fields
- Strong analytical thinking, curiosity, and ability to learn quickly
