As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing intranet applications used across the organization. You will work within Optum’s Technology team, supporting both steady-state application management and new feature development. The role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions, and proficiency in debugging complex applications.

This position also allows you to collaborate with experienced engineers, contribute to application enhancements, and act as a technical resource for junior team members.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Application Maintenance & Troubleshooting

You will maintain intranet applications aligned with:

  • Business requirements
  • Established technical specifications

Troubleshooting, analyzing code behavior, and resolving system issues are part of the daily workflow.

2. Operational Analysis for Decision-Making

You will support business decisions by:

  • Performing operational data analysis
  • Providing explanations of reporting results
  • Making recommendations based on data insights

3. Feature Development & Enhancements

Approximately 50% of your time will be spent designing, coding, testing, and deploying new features within existing applications.

4. Customer Needs Assessment

You will:

  • Understand business and user requirements
  • Interpret customer needs
  • Provide solutions to non-standard asks

5. Problem Solving

Solve moderately complex challenges, requiring both technical expertise and sound analytical reasoning.

6. Independent Technical Ownership

The role offers significant autonomy:

  • Minimal supervision
  • Only complex tasks require guidance

You will be expected to translate conceptual ideas into working solutions.

7. Mentoring & Knowledge Sharing

Provide support to junior team members and explain complex issues or technical concepts when needed.

Required Qualifications

To be eligible for the Software Engineer role, candidates must have:

Education

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience

Technical Skills

  • MVC (Razor View)
  • JavaScript / jQuery / AngularJS
  • Entity Framework / ADO.NET
  • IIS hosting experience
